There is a very specific kind of frustration that almost every multichain user eventually meets: you bridge an asset to a new network, the funds arrive, and then you realize you cannot do anything with them because you do not hold the native token required to pay transaction fees.

You may have USDC on a new L2, a token on Solana, or an asset on a fresh EVM chain, but without ETH, SOL, BNB, CELO, AVAX, or whatever that network uses for fees, the wallet is effectively stuck. The fix sounds simple, yet historically it often meant opening another bridge, finding a faucet, withdrawing from an exchange, or moving funds through several extra steps.

Gas.zip became popular because it treated this small but recurring problem as a product of its own. Instead of asking users to plan gas separately for every chain, it offered a dedicated refueling workflow built around one question: where do you need gas?

Now Gas.zip has ceased operations, development, and maintenance. WheelX is preserving that familiar workflow inside its own cross-chain product stack, while expanding the ways users can fund gas on destination networks.

Why gas refueling is still an important multichain primitive

As the number of L2s, appchains, new mainnets, and non-EVM ecosystems grows, the “last mile” of cross-chain movement becomes more important. A bridge can move value, but a user also needs the native fee asset to use that value.

• It solves the bootstrap problem. A user may already have valuable assets on a destination chain but no native gas token to approve, swap, transfer, mint, stake, or interact with a dApp.
• It reduces context switching. Without a gas refuel flow, users may need a faucet, centralized exchange withdrawal, separate bridge, or another wallet just to make the next transaction.
• It matters most on new networks. Fresh ecosystems often attract users before exchange withdrawals, faucets, and liquidity routes are mature. Gas becomes one of the first onboarding bottlenecks.
• It makes cross-chain activity operationally safer. Planning a small gas balance up front reduces the chance of ending up with assets on a chain that cannot be moved without another rescue transaction.

This is why gas refueling is better understood as a UX primitive rather than a niche bridge feature. The amount involved may be small, but it unlocks everything that comes after it.

Why WheelX implemented the Gas.zip workflow

For WheelX, gas refueling is a natural extension of a cross-chain product. Users are already coming to WheelX to move assets between networks. Adding a dedicated Gas Station means the platform can also solve the smaller but critical transaction that often comes immediately before or after a bridge.

The goal is not simply to recreate the old screen. WheelX is preserving the familiar mental model while integrating it into a broader routing environment.

• Broader destination coverage. The current WheelX Gas Station surfaces EVM networks alongside destinations such as Solana and Bitcoin, while WheelX campaign materials also highlight Tron support.
• Newer ecosystems are visible from the same interface. Arc, Robinhood Chain, Ink, Soneium, Base, BNB Chain, Ethereum, and other networks appear directly in the destination list, with the required gas token shown beside each chain.
• Source-token flexibility. Instead of requiring the user to already hold the destination gas asset, WheelX can use another supported token on the source chain and route it into the gas token needed on the target network.
• Gas refueling lives next to the rest of WheelX. Users can move between Trade, Gas, Payment, Rewards, Quest, and other WheelX functions without treating gas as a completely separate workflow.

How the WheelX Gas Station works

The interface keeps the process deliberately direct. The user starts from the destination, then chooses where the funding should come from.

1. Choose the destination chain

The Mainnets panel lists the destination network, the gas token it requires, an “Add Chain” shortcut where available, and a block-explorer link. This makes the purpose of the transaction explicit before the user chooses a source asset.

1. Choose a source chain and source token

On the Bridge panel, select the chain that currently holds your funds, then select the token you want to use. This is the important upgrade in the workflow: gas refueling becomes a routing problem rather than a requirement to already own the right native asset on the source side.

1. Enter the amount and review the route

WheelX shows the amount being sent and the destination gas asset to be received. Minimum and maximum controls help keep the refuel amount within the supported range.

1. Send gas to the destination address

After the route is prepared, the user confirms the destination address and sends the transaction. The destination address does not need to be the same address that supplied the source funds, which is useful when refueling another wallet.

In the recorded test session, a route from USD₮0 on Ink into CELO on Celo later appeared in WheelX Recent Trades, confirming that the gas flow can start from a non-gas source token rather than requiring the user to first acquire CELO elsewhere.

A migration incentive for former Gas.zip users

WheelX is also giving former Gas.zip users a reason to try the new flow instead of rebuilding their habits from scratch. Under the current migration campaign, addresses that used Gas.zip before September 20 are eligible for a 20% discount on WheelX Gas Refuel service fees. The offer is limited-time and subject to the campaign’s eligibility rules.

The incentive is useful, but the bigger idea is continuity. Gas.zip users already understand the workflow: pick a chain, fund the gas, and move on. WheelX keeps that behavior recognizable while connecting it to a wider set of cross-chain tools.
