A Beginner's Guide to Soneium Score

January 15, 2026

Background

As the blockchain industry continues to evolve, the focus of the ecosystem is gradually shifting. It is no longer solely about short-term speculation or hype, but increasingly about real-world usage, user engagement, and sustainable on-chain activity. In this context, Soneium Network has emerged as one of the networks gaining significant attention, particularly with the introduction of the Soneium Score concept.

What Is Soneium Network?

Soneium is an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain developed by Sony Group, built using the OP Stack from the Optimism ecosystem. The network is designed to support mass adoption, with a strong focus on consumer-facing applications such as entertainment, gaming, NFTs, social applications, and various IP-based use cases.

Unlike many networks that are dominated by highly technical DeFi activity, Soneium positions itself as a blockchain that is accessible to new users, including those without deep prior experience in the crypto space.

The Soneium mainnet was officially launched in January 2025. Since its launch, the network has attracted millions of unique addresses and processed tens of millions of transactions, demonstrating rapid adoption despite being a relatively new entrant in the Web3 landscape. Looking ahead, Soneium also plans to integrate with Sony’s broader product ecosystem, including Sony Music and Sony Pictures, further reinforcing its vision as a blockchain built for consumer applications.

At the same time, WheelX has recorded over 1 million transactions on the Soneium network, indicating that many users rely on WheelX as a cross-chain liquidity gateway when participating in various activities and tasks within the Soneium ecosystem.

Understanding Soneium Score

Soneium Score is an on-chain activity–based scoring system designed to measure the engagement and consistency of a wallet within the Soneium ecosystem. It is important to note that Soneium Score is not a token and not a tradable asset, but rather an activity-based reputation indicator.

In general, Soneium Score reflects:

  • The level of transactional activity of a wallet
  • The consistency of interactions over time
  • The quality of participation (rather than one-off transactions)

While the detailed scoring formula is not publicly disclosed, the core principle emphasizes sustained, reasonable, and ecosystem-relevant activity.

The Soneium Score program was officially launched on August 28, 2025, with the goal of actively increasing user engagement. The campaign is divided into multiple seasons, each lasting 28 days. During each season, users can complete various missions to accumulate points and have the opportunity to earn unique NFT badges at the end of the period.

In general, there are four main categories for earning Soneium Score points:

  • Activity Points Calculated based on the number of transactions, such as swaps or NFT purchases. Each transaction carries the same weight. Additional factors include the number of unique active days and consecutive active-day streaks within a season.
  • Liquidity Points Earned by providing liquidity to selected protocols within the Soneium ecosystem. The calculation is based on the average TVL maintained throughout the season, with the list of eligible protocols and assets updated periodically.
  • NFT Points Obtained through participation in specific NFT-related activities announced via official channels and the project’s social media.
  • Bonus Points Additional points earned from participating in temporary activities or campaigns held during the season.

How to Participate in Soneium Score with WheelX

WheelX can be used as a powerful gateway to build on-chain activity on the Soneium network. Broadly speaking, there are three primary ways to maximize user participation and engagement within the Soneium ecosystem through WheelX: cross-chain bridging or swapping, smart contract interactions, and GM check-ins on the Soneium network.

These three activities represent real and consistent forms of on-chain interaction, aligning closely with the core principles of Soneium Score in measuring genuine user engagement.

In addition, interacting through WheelX also rewards users with XP, which can later be withdrawn as dividends (at the time of writing, 1,400 XP ≈ $1). As a result, using WheelX to interact with Soneium allows users to kill two birds with one stone or even more by simultaneously building on-chain activity, increasing Soneium Score, and earning tangible rewards through XP.

Cross-Chain Bridge & Swap via WheelX

One of the most common ways to start activity on the Soneium network is by performing cross-chain bridging or swapping through WheelX. This activity allows users to transfer assets from other networks to Soneium or vice versa, while simultaneously generating real on-chain transactions.

Step-by-Step:

1. Open the WheelX application Visit the WheelX platform and connect your wallet.

2. Select the source and destination networks Choose the source network and select Soneium as the destination network (or vice versa).

3. Select the asset and amount Choose the token you want to bridge or swap and enter the desired amount.

4. Adjust the Slippage Tolerance

5. Review the route and fee estimation WheelX will automatically display the optimal route along with estimated fees and processing time.

6. Confirm the transaction Approve the transaction via your wallet and wait for the on-chain process to complete.

Deploying Smart Contracts on Soneium

Beyond basic transactions, interacting with smart contracts is a key component of on-chain activity on Soneium. This includes engaging with various dApps, protocols, and other on-chain features available within the network.

Step-by-Step:

1. Select the Deploy menu or directly visit https://wheelx.fi/deploy/

2. Search for and select Soneium from the list of available networks

3. Click Deploy and Confirm the transaction in your wallet

This type of interaction reflects a deeper level of network usage similar to acting as a developer rather than simply performing routine asset transfers.

GM Check-in on the Soneium Network

GM Check-ins are a lightweight yet consistent form of activity commonly used in Web3 campaigns to encourage daily user engagement.

Step-by-Step:

1. Click the Calendar icon labeled GM

2. Select GM on Soneium

3. Click GM and confirm the transaction in your wallet

4. Repeat consistently to earn additional WheelX XP

While simple, GM Check-ins help establish interaction consistency, which is one of the key principles in evaluating user engagement.

Looking Ahead

As the Soneium ecosystem continues to grow and more applications come online, user participation will play a crucial role in shaping the network’s long-term value. By leveraging WheelX as a starting point, users can explore Soneium in a more efficient and structured way while actively contributing to a healthy and sustainable on-chain ecosystem.
